Wedding contributions and the budget, in one place

A wedding contribution budget has two sides: the money a committee, a family and friends put in, and the money the venue, the caterer and the photographer take out. Moneva records both in one event space, so who has contributed, what is committed to suppliers and what is left are always the same figures for everyone on the committee.

  • Wedding or event template with a reserve
  • Contributions recorded under each name
  • Suppliers paid through approvals

Start from the Wedding or event template

The template splits the budget into venue, catering, decoration, logistics, entertainment, photography and outfits, with a flexible Reserve line for surprises, and covers a custom period that ends on the day. Each line can hold items (the hall, the chairs, the sound system) planned by the member responsible for it, and a committee member who does not know the items yet can plan the category as one amount and let others propose items for approval.

The Income tab of the same household budget: the teal summary card with planned expenses RWF 396,000 fully allocated, paid RWF 165,500, still to pay RWF 230,500, planned income RWF 650,000 and RWF 254,000 not yet allocated, then Expected money with an Add income button.

Contributions as income, under each name

Every contribution is income of the event budget, recorded when it arrives with the contributor's name, so the funding card shows expected against received and who still has to pay. A shared savings account with the purpose Wedding does the same for money set aside months ahead: each member's deposit is recorded under their name and the account shows progress to the target. Moneva records contributions; the money itself stays in the committee's account or wallet.

Suppliers paid through approvals

Large payments go through an expenditure request: the treasurer asks, an approver commits the money, the available figure drops at once, and the request is fulfilled with the actual amount and the receipt. Smaller costs are recorded the same day on the right line. Available is allocated minus actual, committed and pending, so two people cannot promise the same money to two suppliers, and every approval is in the audit trail.

Contributing to other people's weddings

On the personal side, the Wedding support category keeps the contributions you make apart: wedding contribution, wedding committee contribution, family wedding contribution; gusaba and dowry support (inkwano, the introduction ceremony); bridal party outfits (umushanana, suit hire); wedding gifts and gift envelopes; and the cost of attending (transport, accommodation, hair and make-up). Funeral and bereavement contributions, umuganda, associations and ibimina sit under Social & celebrations, and tithe, charity and helping family under Donations & giving, so a month of contributions is visible as what it is.

After the event

Close the budget with what went well and what to improve; the closing summary freezes planned, allocated, spent, outstanding and the reserve used. The execution report compares plan and actual per line, and a late invoice can reopen the budget with the reopen recorded.

Questions

Questions people ask

Can the whole committee see the figures?

Members with the matching role see the budget, the contributions and the approvals; the owner decides per member what they may add and see. Nobody's personal space is visible to the committee.

How do we track who has paid their contribution?

Record each contribution as income when it arrives, with the person's name. The funding card shows expected against received and the list shows who still owes.

Does it handle a funeral or a graduation the same way?

Yes. An event space with a single short budget fits any event; the categories include funeral and bereavement, celebrations and community contributions for the giving side.

What about my own contributions to other weddings?

Record them under Wedding support in your personal budget: contributions, gusaba and dowry, outfits, gifts and attending, each its own sub-category, so the month shows what went where.
