Rwanda
A budget app built for Rwanda, usable anywhere
Moneva is a budget app and expense tracker built in Kigali for Rwandan households, groups and projects: Rwandan francs by default, mobile money and cash as payment methods, Mutuelle de santé, umuganda, ibimina and school fees already in the expense categories, market prices grouped by district, and an interface in Kinyarwanda, French and English.
- RWF by default, 22 currencies in all
- Mobile money, cash, bank transfer, card
- Kinyarwanda, French and English
Rwandan francs, mobile money, cash
A new space uses Rwandan francs (RWF, no decimals) unless you choose another of the 22 supported currencies, from Kenyan shillings and Ugandan shillings to US dollars and euros; amounts in different currencies are never added together. Every record carries its payment method — cash, mobile money, bank transfer, card, cheque or other — and a CSV import recognises momo, MTN and Airtel as mobile money. Charges have their own place under Financial › Bank & mobile money fees: mobile money fees, withdrawal fees, transfer fees, card fees.
Categories that speak Kinyarwanda
The expense tree has 26 top-level categories, 143 sub-categories and 459 catalogue items, and the picker searches their Kinyarwanda and French aliases as well as the English names: type umuceli and Rice appears, ubukode finds Rent, minerval finds School fees. Health insurance lists Mutuelle de santé (Mituweli) and RSSB medical (RAMA). Social & celebrations holds the community contributions — umuganda, the village contribution (umudugudu), the neighbourhood security contribution (irondo) — and Associations & ibimina with the tontine. Wedding support keeps gusaba, inkwano and the umushanana apart from gifts and transport.
- Housing: rent (ubukode), rent deposit (ingwate), service charges
- Education: school fees, uniforms, school transport, exams, boarding
- Financial: savings, ikimina contribution, debt repayment, fees
Market prices by district
Rwanda's thirty districts and the sectors of the City of Kigali are built in, so a purchase at Kimironko market can be placed in Gasabo and your price per kilo compared with community medians of anonymised purchases around Gasabo, by kind of place: town market, village market, shop, supermarket. A community figure appears only when five or more purchases from three or more spaces exist, and never names a shop.
Households, ibimina and projects
A household space gives a family one budget with roles and per-member access levels while each member's personal space stays private. A group space fits an ikimina or an association: contributions are recorded as income under each member's name, a shared savings account shows who has contributed, and the activity feed shows actions without amounts unless the owner turns them on. A project space with the Construction project template tracks a build phase by phase; the Wedding or event template starts a wedding budget with a reserve for surprises.
Three languages, one address
The app runs in Kinyarwanda, French and English; switch under Preferences or from the footer, and the choice follows you to the next device once you sign in. Dates follow the Africa/Kigali time zone by default. The public pages are written in English with a French overview and a Kinyarwanda overview.
Beyond Rwanda
Nothing in Moneva requires a Rwandan address. Choose the currency of the space, pick the country of a place when you record where you bought something, and plan in the same way in Nairobi, Kampala, Lagos, Accra, Paris or Boston. Grouping prices by district is specific to Rwanda; your own prices by place work everywhere.

Questions
Questions people ask
Does Moneva connect to MTN MoMo or Airtel Money?
No. You record each payment yourself with mobile money as its method, or import a CSV statement. That keeps you aware of every entry and needs no credentials from your wallet.
Can I use it in Kinyarwanda?
Yes. The interface is available in Kinyarwanda, French and English; switch under Preferences. The category picker also understands Kinyarwanda names such as umuceli, ubukode and minerval.
Is it only for Rwanda?
No. Choose any of the 22 currencies and record places in any country. Grouping prices by district is specific to Rwanda; everything else works anywhere.
Can our ikimina use it?
Yes. A group space records each member's contribution as income under their name, keeps a shared savings account and shows actions without amounts in the feed unless the owner turns amounts on.
