Personal and household budgets, bills, stock that lasts and fair-price checks. Last updated: 2026-11-04 ## Plan the month. See what is left. One budget the whole household records together, from any phone. - Plan together - Track bills - Keep stock ### What you can do #### Personal budgets Plan the month from real income and see what is left. [Personal budgeting](https://usemoneva.com/personal-budgeting/) #### Household & shared budgets Everyone records their share; the owner sees the whole picture. Household budgets #### Stock that lasts Track rice, oil and soap in bulk and see if it lasts. How stock works #### Fair-price intelligence Your price per kilo against the median of anonymised purchases nearby. How prices work Collaborative budgets ### One budget, everybody's contributions, nobody's privacy lost. Invite the people who share the costs. Each records under their own name. - **Access levels enforced on the server** Income, expenses, transactions or view only, checked on every request. - **Every entry keeps its author** An owner's edit never erases who added what. - **One currency per budget** Totals are never added across currencies. How it works ### Three habits, one place. 1 · Plan #### Plan the period Set the period, the income you expect and the expenses. 2 · Record #### Record what happens Log money received and payments as they happen. 3 · Understand #### Understand where it went See what was received, spent and left, and why. ### Security and privacy Authenticator sign-in Codes from any TOTP app, with recovery codes. Permissions that hold Every page and every save is authorised on the server. Private by default No ads, no trackers, no data sales. [How we protect your account](https://usemoneva.com/security/) FAQ ### Questions people ask first [All questions](https://usemoneva.com/faq/) **Can my family share one budget?** Yes. Create the budget, then invite each person by email address and choose what they can contribute to — income, expenses, transactions, any combination, or view only — and what they can see: other members' names and entries, category totals, the overall balances. Everyone plans and records in the same budget; the owner sees the whole picture. Each entry keeps the name of the person who added it. **Does it work offline?** No. The app needs a connection for your money data: budgets, transactions and balances are never stored on the device, so a shared budget never shows two versions of the truth. The public site and an offline screen are cached, so the app opens quickly and tells you when you are offline instead of failing silently. **What does it cost?** Nothing today. Every feature is included and nothing is billed. Paid plans are not available yet; if we introduce them we will announce it well in advance, and the budgeting essentials will stay free. See the [pricing page](https://usemoneva.com/pricing/). **Who can see my personal budget?** Only you. Personal spaces are private. Members of a household, group or project space see only what is recorded in that shared space. **How do I protect my account?** Use a password of at least ten characters that is not a common one, and turn on two-step sign-in from Settings → Security: scan the QR code with Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator or any TOTP app, then enter the six-digit code when you sign in. Keep the recovery codes somewhere safe for the day the phone is lost. Sign-in attempts are rate limited, and the [security page](https://usemoneva.com/security/) explains the rest. **Do you sell my data or show ads?** No. We do not sell personal data, show advertising or load third-party trackers. The only cookies are the session and CSRF cookies the app needs to work. See the [privacy policy](https://usemoneva.com/privacy/). ### Start with one honest month Plan next month from your real income and record as you go, together. --- Page: Features: budgets, tracking, goals & teams · Moneva URL: https://usemoneva.com/features/ Description: Plan budgets, assign spending responsibilities, record expenses with receipts, save towards goals and review progress together, from any phone. Last updated: 2026-10-31 Features ## Everything you need to plan, record and review money together You bring the plan and the receipts; Moneva keeps the numbers honest, shows who is responsible for what, and makes the monthly review something a household or a team can do in twenty minutes. - Every feature included - Installs on your phone - Approvals and an audit trail ### Plan budgets that match real life Start a budget from a template — personal, household, event, construction — or from a blank page. Enter the income you can count on, set a planned amount for each category, and activate it. Monthly, weekly, quarterly, annual and custom periods are all supported, and a budget can be duplicated for the next period with carry-over applied automatically where you want it. Every budget line carries more than one number. **Planned** is what you proposed, **approved** is what passed review, **allocated** is what has been released for spending. For a personal budget they are the same figure; for a project with phases and tranches they are three different ones, and the history shows each change with its reason. - Essential and discretionary categories with custom icons and colours - Overspend policy per budget: block, warn or allow - Scenario budgets to test a plan without activating it - Revisions with a written reason, approved when the space requires it ### Record spending in seconds, with receipts Quick add from any screen: amount, category, a word of description, done. Attach a photo of the receipt for anything you might be asked about later. Income, expenses, refunds and transfers are classified correctly from the start, so a transfer to savings never looks like spending and a refund reduces the category it came from. Larger expenses can require approval. Set a threshold on the budget and anything above it waits as pending — recorded, visible, but not yet counted — until an approver confirms. Planned purchases go through an expenditure request that commits the money first and is fulfilled with the actual amount afterwards. - Splits across categories, recurring bills with reminders, CSV import and export - Reversals instead of deletions, so shared budgets stay auditable - Search and filters by period, category, member, status and amount ### Share a space without sharing everything Your **personal space** is private — nobody else can see its budgets, income or transactions. **Household, group and project spaces** are shared, with roles (owner, admin, approver, contributor, viewer) that decide who can edit the plan, approve spending, record expenses or only look. Each budget line can be assigned to the member responsible for it; they see their lines first and get the reminders. The activity feed shows actions — "Amina recorded an expense on Groceries" — rather than amounts, unless the space owner turns amounts on and the viewer has permission to see all transactions. Invitations expire, memberships can be changed or ended, and ownership can be transferred. Read more about [household budgets](https://usemoneva.com/household-budgets/), [group accountability](https://usemoneva.com/group-accountability/) and [project budgeting](https://usemoneva.com/project-budgeting/). ### Save towards goals and keep the streak A [savings goal](https://usemoneva.com/savings-goals/) has a target, a date and a monthly amount calculated from the two. Contributions are recorded as transfers so they never distort your spending, milestones unlock at 25, 50, 75 and 100 percent, and a streak counts consecutive periods with a contribution. Goals can be shared with a household or group, with each member's contribution recorded under their name. ### Stock that lasts the period A household that buys rice, oil, soap or charcoal in bulk keeps them in **Stock**: items in kilos, litres, pieces or packets, per location (home, kitchen, store). Every purchase, use, return, transfer and count is a **movement**, so the quantity on hand is derived from history and always explained; nothing is ever deleted, a mistake is reversed. Quantities in different units are never added together. A **target** says how much a period should use. The page compares use with the even-use line and says "slower than planned" or "faster than planned", projects when the item runs out and how much more to buy, and can nudge you when stock will not last or is used above the planned rate. A **stock plan** ties targets to the planned entries of a budget, so the money side (budget for these items, spent, left) comes from the same budget summary as everywhere else. Recording a purchase from an expense adds the quantity to stock in one step; a **count** compares what is on the shelf with the stock on the counted day and records the difference with a reason (loss, found, unrecorded use, damage, expiry). Closing a period carries the remaining stock into the next one. Stock changes nothing in your money: a count is never an expense. ### Fair-price intelligence Every purchase recorded with a quantity and a unit price becomes a **price per unit** for that item: grams and millilitres normalise to kilos and litres, pieces and packets stand on their own. The price page shows what you paid, which purchase pulls the average up or down, and the figures by the market, shop or supermarket you bought at. **Community figures are medians of anonymised purchases**, by district and kind of place, with the middle half (p25 to p75) and a six-month trend. A figure is only shown when it rests on five or more purchases from three or more spaces; rows carry no household, user or label, a space's own private items never take part, and the district is the only place text that crosses spaces. The comparison tells you, for example, that you paid 5% more than the community median, and leaves the decision to you. ### Review and improve Insights compare planned and actual by category, member and period, show essential versus discretionary spending, spot recurring charges and project where the month is heading at the current pace. Reports — monthly review, category, income, budget performance, household, savings, project execution, approvals, reconciliation — export to CSV or PDF. Every figure is computed from the income and expenses you record, with the rule behind it explained on the screen; nothing is sent to an AI provider. Gamification — XP, levels, badges, challenges — is optional per person and per space. ### What it deliberately does not do - **No automatic imports.** Transactions are recorded by hand or imported from a CSV file, which keeps you aware of every entry and works with cash and mobile money alike. - **No holding or moving money.** Savings goals track contributions you make elsewhere. - **No mixing currencies.** Each space has one currency; amounts in different currencies are never added together. - **No ads, no trackers, no data sales.** The only cookies are the ones the app needs to work. See the [pricing page](https://usemoneva.com/pricing/) for what the plan includes (every feature, today) and the [FAQ](https://usemoneva.com/faq/) for the details people ask about most. Questions ### Questions about the features **How do transactions get into Moneva?** You record income and expenses yourself as they happen, or import a CSV file. Manual recording keeps you aware of every transaction and works with cash and mobile money as well as bank accounts. **Can I use it on my phone?** Yes. Moneva is a mobile-first web app you can install on your home screen. It needs a connection to show and save your money data; nothing financial is stored on the phone. **Which currencies are supported?** Each space has one currency (Rwandan francs by default). Amounts in different currencies are never added together. ### Try it with this month's budget Create a free account, pick a template and record this week's spending. Ten minutes is enough to see the difference. --- Page: Personal budgeting app for real monthly plans · Moneva URL: https://usemoneva.com/personal-budgeting/ Description: Build a monthly budget from your real income, set category limits, record spending in seconds and see what is left before you spend it. Last updated: 2026-10-31 For you ## A monthly budget you can actually keep Most budgets fail by the second week because they were built for an imaginary month. Moneva helps you plan from the income that really arrives, set limits that fit how you live, and see what is left before you spend it — on your phone, in a few seconds a day. Why it works ### Built around the habits that make budgets last #### Start from real income Enter net income — what lands, not what is promised. Variable earners budget on the floor and treat the rest as a bonus to assign later. #### Savings before leftovers Give savings a fixed line right after essentials. Contributions are recorded as transfers, so they never look like spending. #### A buffer, on purpose Every month has a surprise. A buffer line absorbs it without breaking the plan — and a buffer used in full every month tells you which line is underestimated. #### Your choice of guard-rail Block, warn or allow when a category runs out. Use block on the line that tempts you and warn everywhere else. #### Recording in seconds Quick add from any screen with a receipt photo when it matters. Refunds reduce the category they came from; reversals fix mistakes without deleting history. #### A review that takes twenty minutes Variance by francs and by percent, pace at mid-month, and a duplicate-for-next-month that keeps your lines and policies. On your phone ### What is left, before you spend it A budget opens on the amount still available, how much of the period has gone and where the month is heading at the current pace. Each line shows what was planned, what has been spent and what is left; the plan figures sit one tap away. - **Record expense** from the budget itself, so the line is already chosen. - **Pending and committed** amounts are shown separately and never hide inside "available". - **Duplicate for next month** with carry-over where you want it, keeping your lines and policies. ### How a personal budget works in Moneva 1. **Pick a template or start blank.** The personal template suggests the usual categories — housing, groceries, transport, utilities, phone, health, eating out, giving, savings, buffer — which you rename, remove or extend. 2. **Enter expected income and a planned amount per line.** The running total shows what is unassigned. Zero-based budgeters assign every franc; limit budgeters cap the three or four lines that cause trouble. Both methods work with the same planner. 3. **Set the overspend policy and activate.** Personal budgets activate immediately; approved and allocated amounts are set from your plan. 4. **Record as you go.** Each expense lands on a line and the available amount updates. Pending or reversed transactions never distort the total. 5. **Review and duplicate.** At month end, close the budget with two sentences on what went well and what to change, then duplicate it for next month with carry-over where you want it. Your personal space is private. Nobody — not a household member, not a group — can see its budgets, income or transactions. Shared money lives in [shared spaces](https://usemoneva.com/household-budgets/), where you decide what goes in. ### A worked example Net income RWF 460,000. Essentials — rent 150,000, electricity and water 25,000, groceries 95,000, transport 30,000, phone 12,000, health 10,000 — come to RWF 322,000, or 70 percent. Savings of RWF 46,000 (10 percent) go next, leaving RWF 92,000 for eating out, family support, personal spending and a RWF 17,000 buffer. Every franc has a job; the buffer makes the plan survive the first surprise. The three mistakes that make budgets fail — planning from hoped-for income, forgetting the irregular bills and leaving no buffer — are the ones the planner asks about before you start. If spending keeps escaping the plan, the Insights page shows which habits are behind it. Questions ### Personal budgeting questions **How long does it take to set up a personal budget?** About ten minutes. Pick a template, enter your expected income, adjust the category amounts and activate the budget. **What happens when I overspend a category?** You choose the policy per budget: block the expense, warn you, or allow it. The line shows as over budget either way, so nothing is hidden. **Can my personal budget stay private?** Yes. Your personal space is yours alone. Nobody else can see its budgets, income or transactions unless you invite them. ### Plan this month in ten minutes Create a free account, pick the personal template and enter the income you can count on. The rest follows. --- Page: Household budgeting for families and flatmates · Moneva URL: https://usemoneva.com/household-budgets/ Description: Plan a shared household budget, assign who pays for what, record spending from any phone and keep everyone on the same page without arguments. Last updated: 2026-10-31 For families and flatmates ## One household budget, no surprises Most money arguments are not about amounts; they are about finding out too late. A household space in Moneva gives everyone the same plan, a clear owner for every line, and a feed that shows what happened — while each person's own money stays private. What changes ### Shared money with shared rules #### Roles that fit the family Owner, admin, approver, contributor, viewer. A grandparent who contributes but never spends can be a viewer; a teenager can record on the lines assigned to them and nothing else. #### One owner per line Groceries belong to one person, utilities to another. Anyone who spends records it; the owner checks the line weekly and answers questions about it. #### Approval only where it matters Set a threshold — say RWF 50,000 — and only expenses above it wait for an approver. Small purchases flow; big ones get a second look. #### Personal stays personal Each member keeps a private personal space. The household feed shows actions, not amounts, unless the owner turns amounts on. #### Contributions tracked as income Each person's monthly contribution is recorded in the household space, so everyone can see how much of the plan is funded. #### Reminders to the right person Line owners get the nudges for their lines; approvers get a digest of what is waiting. Nobody is nagged about someone else's job. One screen for everyone ### The same numbers on every phone Home opens on what is safe to spend from the shared budget, then income and spending so far and the lines that need attention. Every member with access sees the same figures; each member's personal space stays invisible to the others. - **Recent** shows who recorded what, so "did you pay the water bill?" has an answer. - **Switch spaces** in one tap between your own money and the household's. - **One insight at a time** — a bill due soon, a line running hot — with a next step. ### How a household space works 1. **Create the space and invite members.** Invitations go by email and expire after a week. Choose each person's role when they join; change it any time. 2. **Build the shared budget from last month's bills.** Rent, utilities, food, transport, school fees, repairs, a buffer. Use real figures. Decide the contribution split — equal, proportional, or fixed — and record contributions as income when they arrive. 3. **Assign each line.** The assigned member sees their lines first and receives the reminders. 4. **Agree the recording rule.** The one that works: anything spent from shared money is recorded the same day, with a receipt photo above an amount you choose. 5. **Set the approval threshold and overspend policy.** Pending expenses are visible but not counted until approved; committed requests reduce what is available immediately. 6. **Check in weekly, close monthly.** Which lines are ahead of pace, is anything waiting, did anyone pay from their own pocket. At month end, compare plan and actual, decide carry-over, write two sentences, duplicate. ### Who uses household spaces **Couples** who share rent and food but keep separate accounts. **Families with working adult children** who each cover part of the household. **Flatmates** who are tired of the shared-costs spreadsheet. **Extended families** supporting a relative's school fees together. In each case the shared space holds only what the members put in it; everything else stays private. What happens if someone leaves? Their membership ends immediately, but the transactions and approvals they recorded stay in the space because the other members' balances depend on them. Their personal space is untouched. The [privacy policy](https://usemoneva.com/privacy/) sets this out in full. Start with one shared month: record the contributions as income, give each line an owner and let the week-by-week figures settle the conversation. [Group accountability](https://usemoneva.com/group-accountability/) covers the approval and feed options in more depth. Questions ### Household budget questions **Can each person see what the others spend?** Members see the shared household budget and the transactions recorded in it. Personal spaces stay private, so personal spending is never shown. **Can we require approval for large expenses?** Yes. Set an approval threshold on the budget and expenses above it wait for an approver before they count against the line. **What roles exist in a household space?** Owner, admin, budget manager, approver, executor, contributor and viewer. Roles decide who can edit the plan, approve spending, record expenses or only look; on each budget the owner also chooses what a member may add (income, expenses, transactions or view only) and see. ### Start a household space this weekend Create a free account, invite the people you share costs with, and build the budget from last month's bills together. --- Page: Savings goals with milestones and streaks · Moneva URL: https://usemoneva.com/savings-goals/ Description: Set a target and a date, record contributions, watch milestones unlock and keep a saving streak. Shared goals work for families and groups too. Last updated: 2026-10-31 Savings goals ## Turn a wish into a monthly amount "I want to save more" is a wish. "RWF 100,000 on the 5th of every month until I have RWF 1,500,000 by next June" is a goal. Moneva does the arithmetic, checks it against your budget, and keeps you going with milestones and a streak. What you get ### Goals that fit the budget, not just the dream #### Target, date, monthly amount Enter two and the third is calculated: (target − saved) ÷ months left. Change the date and watch the monthly amount move. #### Contributions as transfers A contribution is a transfer, not an expense, so it never distorts your spending totals. Withdrawals are recorded the same way, honestly. #### Milestones at 25, 50, 75, 100 A fifteen-month goal is a long wait. Milestones mark the moments the plan is visibly working. #### A streak that rewards consistency Consecutive periods with any contribution count. The streak pauses rather than shames you when a month is missed. #### On track or behind — and what to do After every contribution the required monthly amount is recalculated, so the decision — raise the amount or move the date — is always in front of you. #### Shared goals for households and groups Each member's contribution is recorded under their name, so "who still owes?" has an answer everyone can see. On your phone ### Saved so far, the streak and every goal Savings opens on the total set aside across your active goals, the current and best streak, and each goal with its target, target date and number of contributions. A shared goal is marked as shared and records each member's contribution under their name. - **Progress you can see** — percentage and bar per goal, from real contributions only. - **Streak history** counts weeks with a deposit; a missed week pauses it rather than shaming you. - **Add a contribution** from the plus button like any other transaction; it is recorded as a transfer, never as spending. ### How savings goals work 1. **Create the goal** in your personal space or a shared one: name, target amount, target date, and optionally a starting balance already set aside. 2. **Check the monthly amount against your budget.** If it does not fit, the honest options are a later date, a smaller target or more income. The goal page shows the effect of each change before you commit to it. 3. **Record contributions on a fixed day** — the day after income arrives, before anything else is spent. Each contribution is logged as a transfer to the goal. 4. **Watch milestones and the streak.** Notifications arrive when a milestone is reached or a contribution is due, if you have them turned on. 5. **Recalculate when life happens.** Miss a month and the required amount updates; choose to catch up or extend. **Where is the money?** With you. Moneva records the contributions you make to a bank account, a mobile wallet or a savings group; it does not hold or move funds. The app tracks progress; the money stays yours. ### Which goal first? If you have no cushion at all, start with a small emergency fund — one month of essentials — before anything else. A single surprise expense will otherwise empty the motorcycle fund, and emptying a goal is the fastest way to stop believing in goals. After that, one priority goal and at most one secondary. Every goal page shows the required monthly amount and whether you are on track, so falling behind is visible early rather than at the deadline. Questions ### Savings goal questions **Where is my money kept?** With you. Moneva records the contributions you make to a goal; it does not hold funds or move money between accounts. **How is 'on track' calculated?** From the amount still needed, the months left until the target date and your contributions so far. The required monthly amount updates as you save. **Can I withdraw from a goal?** Yes. Withdrawals are recorded like contributions so the history stays honest and the progress bar reflects what is really set aside. ### Set one goal today Create a free account, enter a target and a date, and see the monthly amount. Then check whether it fits your budget — honestly. --- Page: Group accountability for money goals · Moneva URL: https://usemoneva.com/group-accountability/ Description: Budget with a group that keeps you honest: shared challenges, an activity feed without amounts by default, streaks and badges that reward consistency. Last updated: 2026-10-31 For teams and groups ## Accountability that encourages, not exposes Savings groups, small teams, friends with a shared target: people keep money habits far longer when someone else can see they are keeping them. Moneva makes that visible — the action, not the amount — and adds challenges, streaks and badges for those who want them. What a group gets ### Momentum without surveillance #### A feed of actions "Grace contributed to the equipment fund." "Yves closed October on budget." Members see that things are happening. Amounts appear only if the owner turns them on and the viewer has permission. #### Challenges with a finish line A no-spend week, four weeks of contributions, a month of same-day recording. Join, see who else is in, complete it together. #### Streaks and badges, optional XP, levels and badges reward consistency, not size. Turn gamification off for yourself or for the whole space; budgeting works the same. #### Comments and reactions Celebrate a milestone or ask a question on an activity. Block a member or report a comment if something goes wrong; reports go to the moderation team. #### Shared goals One target, many contributors, each contribution under its owner's name. Progress is visible to the group; nobody has to ask who still owes. #### Boundaries built in Personal spaces are never visible to a group. Members choose what to share; owners choose what the feed shows. On your phone ### Habits, not surveillance The Habits screen shows the week's four goals — log five days, stay under one line, save something, do the weekly check-in — the discipline score, the challenges running this week and templates to start one. - **The discipline score** is a 0–100 reading of budget adherence, logging consistency, savings progress and review habit, each with its weight and the figures it was measured from. - **Challenges** have a clear rule and an end date; everyone in the space can see who is in. - **Points, levels and badges** can be switched off per person and per space; nothing else changes. ### How group accountability works 1. **Create a group space and invite members.** Decide the roles: who approves, who records, who only watches. 2. **Choose what the space is for.** A shared savings goal, a shared budget for a small team's expenses, or simply mutual encouragement where each member keeps their own budget and the feed shows actions. 3. **Set the feed policy.** Actions only is the default and the kindest choice for a group of twenty neighbours. Amounts on is fine for a team of four who already share a bank statement. 4. **Pick a challenge together.** Challenges have a clear rule and an end date. Completing one records an activity everyone can celebrate. 5. **Review as a group, briefly.** Who kept their streak, which goal reached a milestone, what one thing each person will change next period. ### Small teams and associations A church fellowship with a monthly fund, a sports club buying equipment, a cooperative's running costs, a small business with three people and one till: group spaces give each a shared budget with an approver, line owners and an audit history, without the cost or weight of accounting software. Contributions are recorded as income, spending against lines, and large payments through expenditure requests that commit the money before it leaves. See [project budgeting](https://usemoneva.com/project-budgeting/) when the work has phases and milestones; a one-off event is the same space with a single short budget. Treat other members with respect; the [terms of service](https://usemoneva.com/terms/) set out what is not allowed in shared spaces, and blocking and reporting are always available. Questions ### Group questions **Will my group see my amounts?** Not unless the space owner turns on amounts in the feed and the viewer has permission. By default the feed shows actions, not figures. **Can I turn off points and badges?** Yes. Gamification is optional per person and per space; the budgeting features work exactly the same without it. **What if someone misbehaves in a group?** You can block a member, report a comment, or leave the space. Reports go to the moderation team. ### Bring your group Create a free account, start a group space and invite the people who keep you honest. Actions, not amounts, by default. --- Page: Project budgeting for construction & events · Moneva URL: https://usemoneva.com/project-budgeting/ Description: Plan phases and milestones, approve expenditure requests, track committed and actual costs against allocations and close projects with a final review. Last updated: 2026-10-31 For projects ## Phases, approvals and real cost control Building a house, running an event, delivering a contract: money moves through many hands over months, and "about six million" is not an answer. A project space tracks allocations per phase, commits money before it leaves, and shows variance you can explain line by line. What a project gets ### The numbers a project actually needs #### Phases and milestones Foundation, walls, roof, finishes — each phase with its own allocation and a milestone you can photograph. Progress is measured by work done, not money gone. #### Expenditure requests Ask before buying: the approver commits the money, the available figure drops immediately, and the request is fulfilled with the actual amount and a receipt afterwards. #### Committed, pending, actual, available Available = allocated − actual − committed − pending. Two people cannot promise the same money to different suppliers. #### Revisions with reasons Move money from contingency to a phase with a written reason. At the end, the revision history is the story of where the surprises came from. #### Receipts, labour sheets, photos Attach a receipt to every material purchase, a weekly sheet to labour, and a photo to each milestone. Five minutes a day; no disputes later. #### Execution reports and close-out Planned versus actual per phase and line, what went well, what to improve — and the true cost per square metre for next time. On site ### Available means available A budget opens on the available figure — allocated minus spent, committed and pending — with those three amounts right underneath and a pace estimate for the period. Each line shows what is allocated, what has been spent and what is left, and the plan figures sit behind one tap. - **Committed** is money promised through an approved request and not yet paid; it leaves "available" the moment it is approved. - **Pending** is recorded spending still waiting for an approver: visible, not yet counted. - **Record expense** from the budget, with the receipt attached, from any phone on site. ### How project budgeting works 1. **Create a project space** with its currency, invite the committee, foreman or team, and set roles. Approvers should be people who are reachable within a day. 2. **Draft the budget by phase.** Within each phase, split materials, labour and transport — they behave differently. Keep contingency as its own line, never spread as padding. 3. **Submit for approval and activate.** Approved amounts can be released in tranches as milestones are reached; allocated shows what is actually available to spend. 4. **Commit before paying.** Large purchases go through requests. Small costs are recorded the same day on the right line. 5. **Review weekly by phase.** The question that matters: what percentage of the phase is physically complete versus what percentage of its money is spent or committed? 6. **Close each phase, then the project.** Fulfil open requests, attach the last receipts, write the lessons. A closed budget can be reopened for a late invoice; the reopen is recorded. ### A worked example A three-bedroom build planned at RWF 48,000,000 across seven phases plus a 9.4 percent contingency. In the roof phase, materials are allocated RWF 7,500,000: RWF 4,380,000 actual, RWF 2,150,000 committed for the remaining sheets, RWF 180,000 pending for fixings. Allocated minus actual suggests RWF 3,120,000 is free; the honest available figure is RWF 790,000, and the gutters are still unordered at RWF 950,000. That is a revision to make today, not an overrun to explain next month. Every project screen shows the same four figures per line — allocated, committed, actual and available — with the definition one tap away, so the whole team reads the budget the same way. A one-off event is the same thing with a single phase and a shorter deadline. Moneva does not replace a bill of quantities or a quantity surveyor; it tracks the money against whatever plan you have, however rough, and makes the gap between plan and reality impossible to miss. Questions ### Project budgeting questions **What is the difference between committed and actual?** Committed is money promised through an approved expenditure request; actual is money already spent and recorded. Available equals allocated minus actual minus committed minus pending. **Can suppliers or contractors use it?** You can add anyone as a contributor so they record costs they incur, while approvers keep control of what is released. **Does it support multi-year projects?** Yes. A project budget has its own start and end dates and can be revised with a documented reason at any point. ### Set up the next phase properly Create a free account, draft the phases with a separate contingency line, and commit money before it leaves. --- Page: Pricing: one plan, every feature included · Moneva URL: https://usemoneva.com/pricing/ Description: Moneva has one plan today and every feature is included; nothing is billed. If paid plans arrive in future we will announce them well in advance, and the essentials of budgeting will stay free. - Every feature included - Nothing billed today - Export your data any time ### Plans Available now #### Free Free for everyone, nothing billed Everything you need to build better money habits: personal budgets, shared spaces, savings goals, insights and reports. - Phases, milestones and expenditure requests - CSV import - PDF and extended reports - Members per shared space - Personal budgets and expense tracking - Advanced insights and projections - Household, group and project spaces - Push notifications - Number of spaces ### What may come later (not yet available) — and what will not change We are considering optional plans for people who want more than the essentials: deeper projections and extended reports, larger households with more members and advanced approvals, and advanced project budgeting for construction, events and business projects with many phases. None of these is available yet, none has a price, and nothing on this site should be read as a promise of when or whether they arrive. What will not change: personal budgets, shared spaces, savings goals, insights and reports stay free; we do not sell data or show advertising; and no one is ever charged without clearly agreeing to it first. The [terms of service](https://usemoneva.com/terms/) say the same in plainer legal language. Questions ### About pricing **What do I need to sign up?** An email address and a password. Registration asks for nothing else, and every feature is available as soon as the account exists. **Will my data be locked behind a paywall later?** No. You can export your data at any time from Settings, and the budgeting essentials will remain free. **How is the service funded?** By its team, today. If optional paid plans are introduced they will fund the service without advertising or data sales. ### One plan, every feature Create an account and use everything Moneva does. Last updated: 2026-11-04 Help ## Frequently asked questions Short answers about accounts, shared spaces, privacy, budgets, approvals and savings goals. Still stuck? [Contact us](https://usemoneva.com/contact/). ### Budgets and spending **What do planned, approved, allocated and actual mean?** **Planned** is what you intend to spend on a line. **Approved** is the amount that passed review (equal to planned when no approval is required). **Allocated** is the money released for spending. **Actual** is what has been recorded and approved as spent. Available is allocated minus actual, committed and pending amounts. **Why is my transfer to savings not counted as spending?** Moving money to a savings goal does not reduce what you own, so transfers are excluded from income and expense totals. The savings goal shows the contribution instead. **How are refunds handled?** A refund is linked to the original expense and reduces the spending on that category. Your category total therefore shows what you really spent, not the gross amount. **What happens if I go over a category?** Each budget has an overspend policy: block stops the expense from being recorded, warn records it and flags the line, allow records it quietly. In every case the line shows as over budget so the review stays honest. **Can I delete a transaction I recorded by mistake?** Financial records are never deleted. Instead you reverse the transaction, which creates a mirror entry and marks the original as reversed. Both stay visible in the history so shared budgets remain auditable. ### Getting started **What is Moneva?** Moneva is a mobile-first budgeting app for individuals, households, groups and projects. You plan a budget, assign who is responsible for what, record spending as it happens, save towards goals and review the period together. **What does it cost?** Nothing today. Every feature is included and nothing is billed. Paid plans are not available yet; if we introduce them we will announce it well in advance, and the budgeting essentials will stay free. See the [pricing page](https://usemoneva.com/pricing/). **How do transactions get into Moneva?** You record them yourself as they happen, or import a CSV file. Manual recording keeps you aware of every entry and works with cash and mobile money as well as bank accounts. **Can I install it on my phone?** Yes. Open the site in your browser and choose Add to home screen (or use the install prompt). It then opens like an app and works in portrait. It needs a connection to show and save your money data; nothing financial is stored on the phone. **Does it work offline?** No. The app needs a connection for your money data: budgets, transactions and balances are never stored on the device, so a shared budget never shows two versions of the truth. The public site and an offline screen are cached, so the app opens quickly and tells you when you are offline instead of failing silently. ### Privacy and security **Do you sell my data or show ads?** No. We do not sell personal data, show advertising or load third-party trackers. The only cookies are the session and CSRF cookies the app needs to work. See the [privacy policy](https://usemoneva.com/privacy/). **How do I export or delete my data?** Go to Settings → Data. You can download an export at any time and request account deletion, which takes effect after a short grace period during which you can cancel. **Is any AI reading my data?** No. Insights are computed on our servers from the figures you enter, with plain rules that are explained on the Insights page. Nothing is sent to an AI provider. ### Savings and goals **Does Moneva hold my savings?** No. A savings goal records the contributions you make somewhere else (a bank account, a mobile wallet, a savings group). The app tracks progress; the money stays with you. **How does the streak work?** A streak counts consecutive periods with at least one contribution to any goal. It rewards consistency rather than size, and it pauses rather than shames you if you miss a period. ### Shared spaces **Can my family share one budget?** Yes. **Who can see my personal budget?** Only you. Personal spaces are private. Members of a household, group or project space see only what is recorded in that shared space. **What roles exist in a shared space?** Seven space roles: **Owner** (full control, can transfer ownership), **Admin** (manage members, budgets, approvals and settings), **Budget manager** (plan budgets, allocate and assign money, close budgets), **Approver** (review and approve budgets and expenses), **Executor** (spend assigned allocations and record expenses), **Contributor** (record own expenses and contributions) and **Viewer** (summaries and reports only). On each budget the owner also sets a member's access level — income, expenses, transactions, any combination, or view only — and what they see of other members' entries, totals and balances. **What happens to my records when I leave a space?** Your membership ends straight away. The transactions and approvals you recorded stay in the space because the other members' balances depend on them. Your personal space is not affected. **Does the activity feed show amounts?** By default it shows actions (who recorded, approved or achieved something) without figures. A space owner can turn amounts on, and even then only members who can view all transactions see them. ### Didn't find it? Send us the question. If several people ask it, it ends up on this page. --- Page: Security: sign-in, permissions and privacy · Moneva URL: https://usemoneva.com/security/ Description: How Moneva protects your account and your money data: authenticator-app sign-in, permissions checked on the server, private spaces and no trackers. Last updated: 2026-10-31 Security ## Built so the wrong person never sees your figures Moneva holds the plans and records of households, groups and projects. These are the protections you get by default, written for the people who use the app rather than for auditors. Questions are welcome through the contact page. Signing in ### Your account, with a second step when you want one #### Password rules that stop the obvious At least ten characters, not a common password and not your email address. Passwords are stored only as salted hashes. #### Authenticator app (two-step sign-in) Turn it on from Settings → Security: scan a QR code with Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator or any TOTP app and enter a six-digit code when you sign in. You receive recovery codes for the day the phone is lost; turning two-step off again asks for a code first. #### Sign-in attempts are limited Too many attempts pause sign-in for a short while, per address and per account, so a guessed password cannot be brute-forced. #### Sessions you can see and end Every sign-in is listed under Settings → Security with its device, IP address and last activity, and you can end the others with one tap; changing your password signs out every other session. Permissions ### Checked on the server, every time #### Object-level authorisation Each budget, transaction, receipt and goal belongs to a space. A view loads it through your membership and checks the capability your role grants before anything is shown or saved. Hiding a button is never the only protection. #### Not found, not forbidden If you are not a member, the page answers 404 — the same as for a budget that does not exist — so nobody can confirm what others have. #### Per-budget access levels A contributor can be limited to income, expenses, transactions or view only, and the owner decides whether they see other members' names and entries, category totals or balances. #### An audit trail that cannot be edited Consequential actions — activating a budget, approving spending, reversing a transaction, changing security settings — are written to an append-only log. Financial records are never deleted; mistakes are reversed, so shared budgets stay explainable. Privacy ### Private by default #### Personal spaces are yours alone Nobody else can see a personal space's budgets, income or transactions. Shared spaces show members only what their role and the owner's settings allow; activity feeds show actions, not amounts, unless the space turns amounts on. #### Only what you enter Income and expenses are recorded by hand or imported from a CSV file, so the only financial data we hold is what you chose to enter. #### No ads, no trackers, no AI reading your data No third-party script loads on any page — a strict content security policy makes sure of it. Insights are computed on our servers from your own figures with rules the page explains. #### Receipts stay private Uploads are checked by content, stored privately and served only to people allowed to see that record, never from a public link. Your data ### Take it with you, or take it down #### Export any time Settings → Data gives you a download of your own records whenever you want it. #### Deletion with a grace period Request deletion and the account is anonymised after seven days, during which you can change your mind. Records in shared spaces stay with the space, without your personal identifiers, because other members' balances depend on them. #### Encrypted in transit and at rest where it matters Connections use HTTPS; authenticator secrets are encrypted in the database; cookies are HttpOnly and same-site. ### Found a security problem? Last updated: 2026-11-04 About ## Better money habits, built together We make budgeting something a household, a group or a project team can do together — clearly, privately and without spreadsheets. ### Why Moneva exists Most budgeting tools are built for one person and one bank account. Real money is shared: a household splits the rent, a savings group counts contributions, a project pays builders in phases, a small team needs sign-off before spending. Moneva was built for that reality — budgets that several people plan, record and review together, with clear responsibilities and without exposing more than each person should see. ### What we believe - **Habits beat heroics.** A ten-minute weekly review does more than a once-a-year resolution. - **Shared money needs shared rules.** Who records, who approves and who can see what should be explicit, not assumed. - **Numbers should be honest.** Transfers are not spending, refunds reduce it, pending money is not yet spent. The app shows the difference rather than hiding it. - **Privacy is a feature.** Personal spaces are private, feeds show actions rather than amounts by default, and we never sell data. ### How we work Moneva is a small team building in the open with the people who use it. Every feature is included at no charge today; the product carries no advertising and loads no third-party scripts. When we introduce paid plans we will say so plainly and well in advance; the budgeting essentials will stay free. Everything the app calculates is explained on the screen that shows it, in plain words. If a number on your screen does not make sense, that is a bug in our explanation and we would like to hear about it. ### Talk to us Suggestions, questions and bug reports are welcome through the [contact page](https://usemoneva.com/contact/). In short ### Moneva in plain facts #### What is Moneva? Moneva is a mobile-first web app (installable on a phone) for planning incomes and expenses and recording the money received and spent against that plan, for personal, household, group and project budgets, with approvals, assignments and an audit trail. It is a budgeting tool: transactions are recorded by hand or imported from a CSV file, and it holds no money and moves none. #### Who is Moneva for? People who want a monthly budget they can keep; households and flatmates who share costs; savings groups and teams that want accountability; and projects such as construction or events that release money in phases. Anyone aged 16 or over can create an account. #### What does Moneva cost? Nothing today. Every feature is included and nothing is billed. Paid plans do not exist yet; if they are introduced they will be announced in advance and the budgeting essentials will stay free. #### How does privacy work in Moneva? A personal space is visible only to its owner. In a shared space the budget owner chooses which of the three sheets (income, expenses, transactions) a member may work on, or view only, and whether that member sees other members' names and entries, category totals and balances; every request is authorised on the server and a non-member receives a not-found page. Activity feeds show actions, not amounts, unless the space turns amounts on. There are no ads, no trackers, no third-party scripts and no data sales, and nothing you enter is sent to an AI provider. #### How are budgets and currencies handled? A budget covers one period (weekly, monthly, quarterly, annual or custom) in one currency chosen when it is created, Rwandan Franc (RWF) by default; amounts are decimal and totals are never added across currencies. Each line carries planned, approved, allocated and actual amounts, and available is allocated minus actual, committed and pending. #### What do stock and fair-price intelligence do? Stock keeps bulk items such as rice, oil and soap in kilos, litres, pieces or packets per location; every purchase, use, count, transfer and return is a movement, and a count is never an expense. Each purchase with a quantity and a unit price becomes a price per unit by shop. A community median is shown only when it rests on at least five purchases from three or more spaces, by district and kind of place, and never reveals another household's price. #### How is an account protected? Sign-in uses an email address and a password of at least 8 characters, with an optional time-based code from an authenticator app (TOTP) and recovery codes. Attempts are rate-limited, every session is listed and can be ended, and account deletion has a 7-day grace period. What we stand for ### Our values #### Simple Financial planning should be straightforward and accessible. #### Empowering Understand your finances and make informed decisions. #### Together Households, teams and groups working toward shared goals. #### Future-focused Consistent saving, intentional spending, long-term progress. ### See it for yourself Create a free account and plan one honest month. We store the information you type in so that you (and the people you choose to share a space with) can plan, record and review money together. We do not sell personal data and we do not show advertising. This page explains what we collect, why, who can see it, how long we keep it and the choices you have. ### Who is responsible Moneva operates this website and the installable web app. Questions about this policy go to the contact details at the end of the page. ### What we collect **Account details.** Your email address, display name, password (stored only as a salted hash), optional profile photo, language, time zone, theme and notification preferences. **Financial records you enter.** Budgets, budget lines and their amounts, transactions (type, amount, date, category, description, merchant, payment method, notes), receipts and documents you upload, savings goals and contributions, expenditure requests and approvals, comments and reactions. Financial records come only from what you type in or import from a CSV file. **Space membership.** Which spaces you belong to, your role in each, and invitations you send or accept. **Activity and security records.** Sign-in events (time, approximate IP address, browser), an append-only audit log of consequential actions (for example approving a budget or reversing a transaction), one "active today" marker per day for usage statistics, and rate-limiting counters. **Support messages.** Anything you send through the contact form, including your name, email and message, together with the IP address it was sent from. **Technical data.** Standard server logs (request path, status, timing, a request identifier) retained briefly for reliability and security. ### Why we use it - To run the service: show your budgets, calculate balances, send the notifications you have turned on, and keep shared spaces consistent for everyone in them. - To keep accounts secure: detect unusual sign-ins, enforce rate limits and investigate abuse reports. - To support you: answer messages sent through the contact form and resolve problems you report. - To improve the product: aggregate, de-identified usage counts (for example how many people were active this week). We do not profile individuals for marketing. - To meet legal obligations where they apply. ### Shared spaces: who can see what A **personal space** is private. Nobody else can see its budgets, income, transactions or savings unless you move something into a shared space. In a **shared space** (household, group or project) visibility depends on your role: - Members can see the space's budgets and the transactions recorded in them. Budget amounts, who recorded what and the status of approvals are visible to members with the matching permission. - Owners and admins manage members and can see everything in that space. - The activity feed shows actions ("Amina recorded an expense"), not amounts, unless the space owner turns on amounts in the feed and the viewer has permission to see all transactions. - Nothing from your personal space, your income or your private savings balances is ever shown to another member. When you record a transaction in a shared space, it belongs to that space: other members can see it and it stays there if you later leave. ### Insights Insights ("one thing to look at", the Insights page, weekly and month-end reviews) are computed on our servers from the figures you enter, using rules we explain on the page. Nothing about you is sent to an AI provider. ### Cookies We use only the cookies the service needs to work: a session cookie to keep you signed in and a CSRF cookie that protects forms against forgery. There are no advertising or third-party analytics cookies, and no third-party scripts run on our pages. Your browser may store a theme preference and the service worker cache (the public site, its styles and an offline screen) so the app loads quickly. Your money data is never stored on the device. We measure how the site is used with our own cookie-free analytics: each page view is stored as the page, the day and hour, the response status, a device type, whether you were signed in, the site you came from and any campaign tags in the link, and a daily-changing anonymous code that cannot be linked back to you or followed across days; we do not store your IP address or use any third-party analytics. ### Sharing with third parties We share data only with providers that help us run the service, under contract and only as needed: hosting, database and file storage, email delivery and, if enabled, push notification delivery through your browser vendor. We do not sell or rent personal data. We may disclose data where the law requires it or to protect the safety of our users. ### Leaving a space, deleting your account **Leaving a space.** Your membership ends immediately. Transactions, comments and approvals you recorded in that space remain, attributed to you, because the other members rely on them for their accounts. Your personal space is unaffected. **Deleting your account.** You can request deletion from Settings → Data. There is a short grace period during which you can cancel. After it, your profile, personal space and private data are deleted. Financial records in shared spaces are kept for the other members but your name is replaced with "Former member". Audit entries required for security and the integrity of shared budgets are retained in de-identified form. **Exporting your data.** You can download a copy of your data from Settings → Data at any time. ### Retention - Account and financial data: for as long as your account exists. - Sign-in events and rate-limit counters: a few months. - Server logs: a short rolling window. - Support messages: until the case is closed and for a reasonable period afterwards. - Backups: on a rolling schedule; deleted data disappears from backups as they expire. ### Security Passwords are hashed with a modern algorithm. All traffic uses HTTPS. Uploaded files are stored privately and served only to people authorised to see them. Staff access to the control centre requires two-factor authentication and every staff action is logged. We limit the data each staff member can see to what their role needs. No system is perfectly secure. If you believe your account has been compromised, change your password and contact us immediately. ### Your choices and rights Depending on where you live you may have rights to access, correct, export, restrict or delete your personal data, and to object to certain processing. You can exercise most of these directly from your settings; for anything else, contact us. We will respond within a reasonable time. ### Children Moneva is for people aged 16 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from younger users. ### Changes to this policy We will post updates on this page and change the date at the top. Material changes are announced in the app before they take effect. ### Contact Use the [contact page](https://usemoneva.com/contact/) or the support address shown there. Last updated 5 November 2026 **Draft — requires legal review before this policy is relied upon.** This text is published so that it can be read and reviewed; it will be finalised with legal counsel before launch. ### 1. Agreement These terms govern your use of the Moneva website and web app (the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service. ### 2. Who can use the Service You must be at least **16 years old** and able to enter into a binding agreement. If you use the Service on behalf of a household, group, business or project, you confirm you are allowed to bring its members in and to accept these terms for your own use. ### 3. Your account - Keep your password secret and your email address up to date. - You are responsible for activity under your account. Tell us promptly if you believe it has been compromised. - One person, one account. Do not share credentials or impersonate anyone. - We may suspend accounts that break these terms, that we believe are compromised, or that are used to harm other users. ### 4. What the Service is (and is not) Moneva helps you plan budgets, record spending, save towards goals and review progress. It does **not** hold money, move money or provide financial, legal or tax advice. Insights are general information generated from the figures you enter; decisions about your money remain yours. The Service is offered free of charge today. If paid plans are introduced in future, they will be announced in advance and nothing will be charged without your clear agreement. ### 5. Shared spaces Shared spaces (households, groups and projects) are run by their owners and admins. By joining one you accept that: - other members can see the budgets and transactions recorded in that space, according to their role; - what you record there stays in the space if you leave, because the other members rely on it; - the owner decides who joins, who approves spending and whether amounts appear in the feed; - disagreements about money inside a space are between its members. We provide the tools, not arbitration. Treat other members with respect. Harassment, intimidation or sharing another member's private information is not allowed. ### 6. Acceptable use Do not use the Service to: - break the law, launder money or finance anything illegal; - store or share content that is abusive, hateful, sexually explicit, or that infringes someone else's rights; - send spam, scams or unsolicited invitations; - probe, scan or attack our systems, scrape the Service, or bypass rate limits and access controls; - upload malware or files you are not entitled to share; - misrepresent who you are or who you act for. ### 7. Your content You own what you enter and upload. You give us the limited licence needed to store it, show it to the people you share it with, back it up and process it to provide the Service. You are responsible for having the right to upload what you upload (for example, receipts containing someone else's details). We may remove content that violates these terms. Reports of abuse are reviewed by our moderation team, and you may be asked for more information. ### 8. Availability and changes We work to keep the Service reliable, but it is provided "as is" and "as available". We may change, pause or withdraw features, and we may update these terms. When changes are material we will announce them in the app before they take effect. Continued use after that date means you accept the updated terms. ### 9. Ending your account You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Data. We may terminate or suspend access for breach of these terms, for prolonged inactivity after notice, or where required by law. Sections 7, 10 and 11 survive termination. ### 10. Liability To the fullest extent permitted by law, Moneva and its team are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential losses, for lost profits or savings, or for decisions you make based on figures or suggestions shown in the Service. The figures the Service shows are only as accurate as what you and the members of your spaces enter. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law. ### 11. General These terms are the whole agreement between you and Moneva about the Service. If a part is found unenforceable, the rest still applies. Our failure to enforce a term is not a waiver. Unless the law where you live says otherwise, these terms are governed by the laws of Rwanda. ### 12. Contact Questions about these terms: use the [contact page](https://usemoneva.com/contact/).
